![]() ![]() ![]() "The above chart shows the approximate first serial number shipped for the indicated year. ![]() If you look at the blurb under the list for each model on Ruger's web site, it states the dates are when the gun shipped: With new production guns, the date on the envelope will be accurate. Sometimes there are several years difference between the actual date of manufacture and the date on the envelope. Generally, this is much more accurate for "date of manufacture", however older guns that were warehoused didn't have the spent case (not required before 2000) so before they could be shipped, they had to be test fired and the envelope dated. The newer guns come with a spent case in a small envelope that has the date the gun was test fired. many discontinued models started showing up on the dealer's shelves. Often times the older guns got on the bottom of the stack and didn't ship to dealers in sequence.Ī few years ago (before the gun glut), Ruger got in financial trouble and sold off most of their warehoused guns. They would order a batch of a guns and when their supply got low, they would reorder. ![]() Additionally, the distributors did the same thing. By law, they had to put a serial number on a gun as soon as it was a completed, however, they often stockpiled guns in the warehouse and shipped them out of sequence. Stocks_sd, Ruger's manufacturing date and ship date may be totally different. ![]()
